2005 was the year that The Diamond Geezers advertising trailers first made an appearance around the North East.
The trailers caused a stir when I was towing them around and even brought a small crowd in the Silverlink car park of people who said "I used to go to the speedway". I was at Halfords in the Silverlink buying security devices for the trailers at the time and when I came out of the shop I was surprised to see a group had gathered around the trailer on what was really it's maiden voyage! I had a great time chatting to the people who had gathered around it.
Leaving the trailers unattended for roadside advertising, turned out to be eventful! Within a week both of them had been targeted by thieves and vandals.
Gateshead Council objected to the trailers and I was asked to remove the trailer in the metro centre locality. Which I tried to do but when we got there a thief had removed it for us. Permanently!
Seems the new tyres and light board were too attractive to the thief. that trailer lasted no longer than 3 weeks.
Newcastle Council had no problem with them nor did Northumbria Police. Our trailer outside Gosforth Park was there for a while and another thief helped himself to everything that could be removed with screw drivers.
I repaired it and we took it over to a roadside in Stanley (Derwentside Council made no objections) and within a couple of weeks it had been visited again by unfriendly people! This time the trailer was damaged and the wheel clamp was stolen!! Very good idea wheel clamps as long as a thief doesn't decide to steal THEM!
Are the trailers worthwile? Yes, I think so, but only if they are used for displays manned by us Geezers, otherwise they are just targets in the dead of night for bad lads.
